Action Item: Bob will bring up concerns with the officer group.
General discussion regarding the overall state of the guild with concern expressed over declining membership, communications, ability to draw new members and whether the guild was meeting the needs of members.
A core problem identified was the continuing inability to get members to volunteer for leadership positions and/or take an active role in other activities.
The guild’s mission was reviewed and generally agreed that the mission is to ‘create a community of woodworkers’. There is a need to review how effectively the mission is being accomplished. It was also discussed that little has been done in the way of using new social media tools to publicize what the guild has to offer and what demographics should be targeted.. Marketing was identified as a key focus for the guild.
A suggestion was made that the board, working with the current officers and any interested members, prepare a strategic plan for the guild. The purpose of that plan will be to determine ways to improve the guild in terms of membership services and provide a course of actions for the guild over the next five years..
The board agreed that a strategic plan is to be developed. That plan will focus on mission, marketing and membership
– To set up a discussion meeting with the officers to gather their input for a strategic plan.
o This discussion will focus on reaffirming the guild’s mission, determining what can be done to ensure that the guild will improve our capabilities to meet the mission.
As a result of the action item, an email was sent to set up a meeting with the board and officers at the earliest possible time.
Meeting adjourned at approximately noon.
