Jettycats Group Seeking Woodworking Volunteers
My friends and I take care of a Jettycat feral cat colony out in Westport Washington. Several volunteers donate both time and money ensuring that these cats always have sufficient food, water and veterinary care. They also do their best to trap the kitties, get them medical care and neuter them and then either find homes for them or release them back into the colony. At present the cats live in the rocks on the jetty or under buildings. Their food is placed in wooden feeding boxes made quite a number of years ago. These boxes are getting to be quite old and are open to the elements. I am enclosing a photo that shows what the condition of the boxes that cats have now. These boxes are closed on three sides and open in the front, leaving them wide open to the elements.
There is a group who care for a feral cat colony down in
Gold Beach, Oregon that have built a little village of houses
complete with sailing ship and lighthouse. It not only provides
a safe place for the cats to eat but has also become a tourist
attraction that is listed in tour guides. Many tourists who
come to see the sanctuary leave donations which are used
to help care for the cats.
These cats are in need of better housing.
We have looked
at what they have done in Oregon and would like to do something
like that in Westport. Our only challenge is that we do not
have the skills to accomplish such a project. This is why
I am writing you. If we provided your group with the basic
requirements, are there members of your group who would like
to donate their time, skills and material to construct new
houses for the kitties. We would need about 7 or 8 structures.
If there isn't anyone in your organization that can help
us, would you be able to recommend someone who might be able
to?
Here is an article about the Jetty cats in Westport

Or.

Hi.
I am writing to you in hope of information and or help. When my husband retired

it didn't turn out that way. As a res ult I have equipment that

of these items. We live in Toledo WA and want to offer the following

Plus many hardwood blocks.
Asking $1,000.00 for all. What I am asking is if you know

of how to get them sold. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank

Ultimate bragging rights: Your shop in a national magazine
Do you have the kind of shop other woodworkers like to visit? Is your shop filled with clever ideas that help you work smarter, faster, or safer? Have you designed and built special tool racks, machine bases, cabinets, jigs, or other shop helpers you think your fellow woodworkers would find interesting? If so, the editors at WOOD magazine invite you to submit your workshop or individual shop projects for review for possible publication in future editions of America's Best Home Workshops. Your shop doesn't have to be big, or nit-picky clean. The ideas could be storage solutions, task-specific jigs, shop tips, or the special way you designed, built, and outfitted your shop. SHARE WOODSHOP......HAVE MACHINES...... NEED SPACE
Moving to Seattle, have woodshop machines...surface planer, large lathe, table saw, band saw, jointer, drill press, dust collection system, etc. Looking for a stable, probably retired woodworker with a safe, secure double garage who would keep the rust off with hobby or very light commercial use. I would need access to the shop occasionally, probably no more than 10 hours monthly, for hobby use. Would also need some floor space for cabinets for my hand tools. Do not yet have a place to live in Seattle, and don't know if my place will have a garage, so this could be a long term arrangement, can start with a 6 month committment if that works for you. If this interests you, send me a note and try to convince me that you'd be a good adoptive parent to the tools.

Marilyn Oviatt, Teacher
Wilson High School Wood Shop
Tacoma, Washington 253-571-6088
To Interested Parties:
I began working at Wilson High School in Tacoma, Washington
this year. I have been cleaning, organizing and planning
as well as teaching five classes a day since September. I
look forward to building a program that gives students an
opportunity to experience a positive woodworking experience.
I am enjoying support from many friends, including your
Clair Boussum. Along with my efforts, I can use some support
in the way of donations. If you can afford to donate anything
that we need, it will be greatly appreciated. Whether you
can give a roll of tape or ten roles of tape, every donation
will all help give the students a great experience. I will
list a few things that I know we need for the coming semester
and if you have something else that you think would help
our program, please let me know. We will need the following
supplies:
• Thin tracing paper
• Lead mechanical pencils 0.5 mm
• Masking tape – 2 inch
• Ear plugs
• Dust masks
• Spray glue
• 220 and up sand paper
• Scrap wood for intarsia or wood boxes
• ¼ inch material for intarsia back
• Wood glue
• Patterns, Prints, and instructions for small wood projects
• Guest Woodworkers to help with a project
• ???????
I appreciate your kindness and I look forward to meeting
some of you.
Sincerely,
Marilyn Oviatt
